Payday loans in all provinces: the rules where you live
One national cost cap, different local rules. Compare every province, then open yours for the details and its major cities.
Payday loans in Canada follow two layers of rules. The Criminal Code sets the national limits: a payday loan is $1,500 or less, lasts 62 days or less, and since January 1, 2025 costs no more than $14 per $100. Each province then decides how lenders are licensed and adds its own protections, which is why a loan in Manitoba is sized differently from one in Ontario. Choose where you live.
