Payday loans Ajax: whose name is on the account?

Lenders send money only to an account in your own name. Here is what that means if your pay goes into a joint or family account.

Ajax has about 127,000 residents (2021 Census) on the Lake Ontario shore in Durham Region, with a diverse population and many commuters to Toronto. Ajax residents apply online with Ontario-licensed lenders, and funds arrive by Interac e-Transfer.

An Ajax exampleKofi’s pay goes into a joint account he shares with his partner. The lender’s bank check shows both names, which is fine because one of them is his. If his pay went into an account in his partner’s name only, the lender couldn’t use it, because the borrower must be an account holder.

Ajax borrowers are covered by Ontario’s payday loan rules: at most $14 per $100, half your net pay, and two business days to cancel.

Ajax-specific things to know

  • The account must be yours. A joint account works if you’re one of the holders. An account in a family member’s name alone does not.
  • Joint accounts share the risk. If a repayment bounces from a joint account, the fees hit both of you. Talk it through before you borrow.
