Brantford has about 105,000 residents (2021 Census) on the Grand River, with manufacturing and logistics employers and a Wilfrid Laurier University campus downtown. Brantford residents apply online with Ontario-licensed lenders, with funds sent by e-Transfer.

A Brantford exampleTina owes $570 on Friday but will only have $300 spare. In some places she could pay the $70 fee and “roll” the $500 into a new loan, paying another $70 two weeks later without reducing what she owes. In Ontario that’s not allowed. She calls the lender on Wednesday, before the due date, and arranges to pay in two parts.

Brantford borrowers are covered by Ontario’s payday loan rules: at most $14 per $100, half your net pay, and two business days to cancel.

Brantford-specific things to know

  • No rollovers, no extensions. An Ontario lender can’t give you a new payday loan while you still owe it on one, or extend your agreement past its original end date.
  • Call before the due date. Lenders must accept partial payments. Talking to them early is the cheapest way out.
